Virtual reading fluency practice? Yes, please! Your students can practice reading short vowel word family words with these Boom Cards. They can practice reading each word in isolation, then reading the words in the story. Follow the link in my profile to check them out 😍
Individual student supplies, 2021 edition. Since we can`t share pens or touch our ViewBoard with our fingers, I bought crayon styluses for all of my students to keep in their desks. Now we can all write on our ViewBoard or play our Boom Cards/Google Slides games during whole-group instruction! No link; just search "crayon stylus" in Amazon. Happy interacting! 🖍
We talk a lot about every day situations that might cause different feelings in our students, how big our feelings are, and what we can do to start to feel better and “come back down on the feelings scale”.
The situations on this wheel were selected based on situations that I know cause some level of upset in some of my students.
An added bonus to using an activity like this, is that we can begin to explore perspective taking using situations personal to us.
Where one student might have a big feeling about the fire alarm going off, for another student it might be “no problem”.
We can share our different opinions and feelings and then work together to problem solve or come up with coping strategies to feel better. The coping strategy each student selects will also often be unique to that student AND the situation!
It’s a great opportunity to brainstorm and work together to come up with ways to feel better when we aren’t in the height of one of these situations happening for real- but knowing that they are things that can (and do) happen!
We hope that it helps out student feel better prepared to start independently coping with these feelings in the future!
Just in case you missed it, both of these freebies are linked in my bio or feel free to comment or message for the links!
The wheel is set to have an option to “make a copy” so you can add your own scenarios specific to your students!
If your students are struggling with 5-finger scales this summer, 🥵 don’t miss this brand new Bundle of Boom Cards!
✨Add a little more FUN to 5-finger scales! ✨
Includes: 🍦 Major & Minor 5-finger scale patterns 🍦Identifying & Completing Major & Minor 5-finger scales 🍦Listening for the difference between Major & Minor 5-finger scales 🍦 Scales marked on the piano keys with popsicles & ice cream treats! 🍦 7 comprehensive decks of Boom Cards!
I used to teach 5-finger scales to my students before jumping into full octave scales.
Students felt so accomplished 🙌 & it opened the door to all kinds of new theory they could learn before jumping into learning the crossing over and under that comes with one-octave scales.
Do you teach them first? Not at all? Why or why not?
Nothing made me happier today than looking out from my small group table and seeing a student rocking syllables during centers on Boom Cards.
I was bursting with pride & just had to go snap a picture! 📸
A few reasons I love using Boom Cards for centers: 💥students can get targeted practice with skills (and it feels like a game to them!) 💥they can complete decks independently (with audio support) 💥students get instant feedback since decks are self-checking
I loved watching him clap out the syllables in each word & get excited each time he got it correct (or re-clap if he missed it). 👏🏻
There’s no doubt, boomlearning is my FAVORITE (and my students’ favorite) app/platform to utilize in the classroom 💕
Not all students love verb conjugation, but Boom Cards make it so much more fun! We used this set a lot when my son was learning the passé composé (and we reviewed again with it this year!)
